The Chakras and the Tarot Trumps: Part VI

The Final Chapter: All Eyes on the Crown

The final two chakras open almost automatically once the initial five are opened, cleansed and balanced. The brow chakra, called the Anja (meaning "to perceive" or "to command") chakra or divine eye, is the chakra of insight, of intuition and is located on the forehead, spatially between the eyes. Corresponding to the pituitary gland, which is intrinsic to achieving altered states of consciousness, it is the polar opposite of the Muladhara or root chakra; it represents the willed mastery of the five lower chakras, the blending of their energies into the ultimate tool of redefinition, of psychic acuity, of being able to fulfill desires well beyond the physical plane of material concerns. The demarcations of the self in relation to the world and the world in relation to the self dwell here as do concepts greater than the self: the workings of the laws of nature and of magick, the idea of working for the greater good of the self and others, etc.

This is spot where the greatest Hermetic insight becomes manifest, where the energy initiated in the Root Chakra evolves into creative flame. It is the point of the union of opposites (remember that even the brain exists physically as a duality) where mental focus - willed memory, intuition (which is simply truth through the glass of self-knowledge), attention and imagination - and the information provided by the five senses spawn true illuminated cognitive perception. The energies of the five baser chakras then become instruments of physical and mental mastery which, when amalgamated, are the ultimate roads to true knowledge, true perception, true discernment; the consciousness level is subsequently elevated and the spiritual potential is roused. Once the eye is opened, the definitions of self and the world become malleable ambiguities. Reality - past, present and future - is recognized as potential-rich flux, nothing more; it becomes explicit that intuitive creativity is the necessary element for any sort of permanent endeavor.

To increase brow chakra energies, increase knowledge and exercise memory and perception skills daily. Also, meditate on The World and The Fool keys from the Tarot's major arcana. Their ties to this chakra are both obvious and subtle and, when fully realized, will assist the magickian in opening his vital third eye which will, in turn, boost his psychic perceptions greatly. Existing above the head of the magickian, along the path through which the white light flows during ritual workings, lies the crown or Sahasara chakra, the chakra of fulfillment, of true completion, of god-union. Upon the opening of this energy center, the self is transcended and the True Self becomes manifest and dominant. Within this chakra is the complete knowledge of the individual's link with the macrocosm. Full mental and psychic attention becomes focused on the inner worlds; it is realized that the quest for knowledge is the only unfulfilled desire worthy of pursuit, and this is as it should be within the laws of magick. The second and the eighteenth keys of the major arcana are windows into this attainment of godliness, especially the High Priestess. Study all the corresponding symbolism carefully and in detail. In this is true knowledge.

Once this chakra is reached, attachments to the physical world fall away as scales upon the eyes as one has the freedom to listen to his or her True Self, view the unimpeded workings of the universe and redefine the world (existing as both the self and otherwise) is accordance with his or her higher inner motivations. The lower self in now entirely subservient to the higher; time vanishes as smoke before a strong wind and all means of awareness rise to the level of divine enlightenment. The individual will never again view existence in the same way; he or she has truly embraced the god-experience and all future actions shall be fueled by varied levels of their consciousness which they now perceive as a balanced, seamless whole. The enlightened individual's mantra then irrevocably evolves to become: "Control the body, control the mind, know thyself, meditate and practice your craft".
