The Chakras and The Tarot Trumps: Part V
Notes in the Key of Immortality
The fifth chakra, the Vissudha chakra, rests at the base of the throat and corresponds to the thyroid gland. Known as the purification chakra, it is the final chakra to be located along the spinal cord, the central wand for the upward, spiraling flow of awakened kundalinic energies. This is where the true voice emerges and where the banal is differentiated from the wondrous; this blue wheel encompasses all the specifications of true immortality.
The Vissudha chakra is the focal point of self-expression, of creative productivity through imagination and acute self-awareness. The energies of this center thrive on the mental integration of the inner and outer worlds, the tempering of the sensual through the balanced influences of reason and experience. It offers the promise of the transcendent self, free from the fetters of immediacy, through the presentation and projection of our balanced thoughts, the utilization and proper communication of our realized perceptions. The will becomes the anode, the imagination the cathode (or vice versa; their positions naturally vary, but the relation remains constant), and the throat chakra the portal for the emergent means of communication, the unsullied light of creative activity. And this is essential today, as the means with which we communicate, while convenient, have become so varied, passive and assumed. It is necessary to keep this chakra clear for the sake of intuitive clarity and emotional sensitivity.
All communication provides degrees of mobility for the expressive
self. The energies of the Vissudha chakra are key to the purpose of
transmitting - and transforming - consciousness, both ours and
those around us. Consider the myriad number of forms
communication may take: speech, drama, writing, music, telepathy,
empathy, channeling, astral travel, etc. And once the relation
between speaker and listener is established, the stagnancy of
isolation is obliterated. And the basis of this link is perceived
vibration, whether from word, deed or psychic contact. Remember
the magickal Law of Attraction. That's why a speaker's words and
ideas draw those of a like mind. The proper vibrational alignment
of thoughts and words through a cleansed fifth chakra are the keys to mental and spiritual attraction and proliferation.
As an exercise, memorize a favorite poem, rede, mantra or prayer
(and vary your choices in terms of subject matter and
emotions/ideas to be expressed; never be afraid to test new waters).
Open the throat chakra through basic meditation. Recite the
memorized piece after you have the chakra spinning. Modify
intonation, cadence, pacing and emphasis. Consider it in terms of
listening to it yourself and presenting it to others; analyze it in term
of what you want you want to bring across from the work. See
what effect each amendment has to the chakra's operation.
Experiment often. Record all of your experiences in your Book of
Shadows and apply them to your everyday speech, especially in terms of willed self-expression.
To truly fine-tune this chakra, especially in preparation for astral work, a) practice the exercise above often, b) take the time to teach or willfully place yourself in learning situations; hone your intuitive ear in terms of giving and receiving, and c) practice creative visualization; the more you're able to envision, the more you can alter your waking world in terms of ritual, structure and focus.
The Vissudha chakra is also where we begin to choose the experiences which will enhance our understanding of the
overwhelming potential of the self as creative engine. It is the time of the establishment of inner and outer communication -
both on the basis of
active cognition as well as stilling the mind to
render it a fitting receptor - that allows for the creator to give
freely of his or her own creative energies, while allowing him or her
to access the energies of wisdom received - past, present and future
(keep in mind the concepts of speaking in tongues and the psychic
deafness that is the precursor to eroto-comatose lucidity). It is at
this chakra point that discrimination in terms of what is acceptable
to our higher selves (as well as self-determination concerning our means of self-expression) becomes a controllable issue. Not only does inhibition and indecisiveness block the flow of energy through this chakra, it must also be remembered that habitual, reflexive speech, whether based on needless mental defense mechanisms or outdated, conditioned dogmatic assumptions, is not true communication; rather, it is wasted energy. This is one of the lessons of the fifth key of the Tarot deck, The Hierophant. His voice is divine authority, but should his desire be based upon hollow beliefs, his voice is stilled, his house become a wonder of architecture and not a sanctuary for dynamic spiritual creativity. Express only that which is free from hypocrisy, steeped in sincerity, and reeking of passion. That is the mark of a true creative force.
