The Chakras and The Tarot Trumps: Part IV
The Anahata Chakra: Scythe, Scales and Matters of the Heart
Consider a commonly requested magickal operation (apart from money, of course): a love spell. The ritual is designed,
carried out, and promptly forgotten by the magickian as is proper. When magickal energies are depleted, they must be
restored, whether through prescribed rest, visualization or meditation. Sleep, of course, does this naturally. But what other
means, already specialized in terms of vibration, are available to the magickian? The chakras are an excellent restorative.
They recycle energy on the levels of inner consciousness, thus balancing necessary internal energies and fueling the self.
And, in the case of the demands of a love spell, what better chakra than the heart chakra?
The Anahata or heart chakra, when verdant and cleansed, is the
center for balance and harmony, regulating the matters of caring,
trust and gentility with the self and others. It allows for the
practitioner to be able to give and receive without giving, to be
flexible in the face of change, to be open to new ideas and personal
growth, and to be able to cope with loss. It is directly connected to
our spirit/gods relations (perceived in ourselves and others) as well
as matters defined by past lives - in fact, it is directly linked to the
entire human tactile response system, a key to the internal
visualization system as a whole. The phrases "from the heart" and
"knowing something by heart" apply directly to the Anahata chakra,
suggesting its incorporation of hindsight and foresight into an expanding consciousness that can now move beyond past and
present physical experience only. Self-evaluation becomes more flexible and self-condemnation is left behind. The realization
of ideals, the union of individual and universal values, the essence of commitment and self-acceptance and issues such as
compassion, tolerance and empathy are all realized within this airy wheel. Here the laws of attraction become manifest, given
the right medium of growth.
But likewise,
this chakra,
linked as it is
with the
thymus,
embodies
some very
serious
concerns for
the practicing
magickian. It is a door to past lives, it regulates the ability to create as means for inner and outer unity, it governs the
capacity to formulate responsible questions and deal completely with the consequent answers which fuel our sense of
spiritual connection with the world. The phrase "died of a broken heart" certainly has its basis here, illustrating the vital
connection between love, trust and spirit, especially spiritual growth. This chakra's constant reminder is thus: All creation is
in a ceaseless state of growth or decay - such is life, such in entropy. The Tarot images of The Hanged Man, Justice and
Death all suggest aspects of this chakra's perfected or contaminated nature. Integrated into the various facets of magickal
work, the energies of the heart chakra and these Tarot Keys will sharpen intuition, deepen mystical experience and
strengthen the will in relation to its links to the divine.
