To all who read Goat & Candle, Greetings:
My name is Manelqua.. I and my Eternal Lover Hummingbird are the Presiding Elders of a 175 acre Eclectic Sanctuary named "Our Haven". Together with six others we have formed a Council of Elders to work within the guidelines established by a simple concept. That concept being that ALL Positive Paths live in Harmony, & work towards a common goal. A goal that is needed more now than ever before in history... the Healing of Mother Earth. Being less than one year old, we are still in the birthing stage of our Dream. We don't have a community of like-minded people to help us yet. We do have, though, members who are willing to come out and help us build cedar showers to get ready for our first Gathering.
True there are some that say, "We can`t get along with them!" on every Positive Path. Whether that Path is Pagan, Native American, Christian, etc. Switch the "we" and "them" with any Positive Path, depending on what Path you are on, and I`m sure you have heard it. If we all listen carefully, we will hear the Mother saying ,"You are ALL my children. We didn`t just hear it this weekend. We experienced it. We had Mormon, Shaman, Christian, Eclectic Pagan, working together to build the cedar shower mentioned earlier. Some of our friends that follow the Native American Path are planning a sweat lodge. These are just examples of what we are doing here already.
If this interests you at all, you will find us located in the gentle rolling hills 12 miles from French Lick. You are welcome to come for a visit and a tour. All that we ask is that you notify us in advance by calling (812) 936-7656 and are willing to sign a standard waiver. Some of what you will see will be: a creek running through the heart of the land, secluded areas for those who like the sun, as well as large enough festival grounds to have a "Ren Fair" size gathering. There is also a 60'x17'x14' pole barn that will be used for indoor workshops, four natural springs and a high pasture that is perfect for a small private festival.
I could go on for another hour trying to describe the beauty of this land and still feel that I`m leaving something out. So instead, I will try the impossible and that is to tell you how we got started in 200 words or less.
One of our Elders might say it started a few years ago sitting around her table in Elkhart talking about having a place in the woods where people could sit around, drink coffee and chat about their dreams. Another Elder said it was started by a few people wanting to have a small piece of Mother Earth to share common dreams, love and support in the form of a Sanctuary. One of our members said it was an answer to her prayers. For me, it started almost 50 years ago, when I dreamt as a small child of people singing and dancing around a bonfire, knowing they were safe. I didn't realize at the time my Goddess wanted me to help build the fire. Seven years ago, I started actively talking about needing a Sanctuary where people from any Positive Path would be welcome. Many agreed and started praying for the success of that dream. "Our Haven" is the answer to those prayers. I would like to thank the Frater & Quill for suggesting this article and you for reading it.
