In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust
This phrase may, at times, be as oft used in Wiccan and Pagan circles as the Rede itself. For that reason alone, much of its profound meaning has been lost. This loss is an absolute shame.
What, after all, does "Perfect Love" mean? Naturally, different people have different concepts of "love". Perfect Love, however, goes far beyond the ideas of affection between friends, the love shared by husband and wife, or parents for children, and so forth. Perfect Love is when the individual is united with the All, and works for the good therein. Every breeze, every cry of a young bird, the snow and rain, growing plants, the interaction of humanity - the practitioner of Perfect Love is attuned to all these things and lives within the framework of their harmony.
While Perfect Love on this level may seem as impossible to attain, Perfect Trust is even more difficult. Most people don't feel they can trust each other anymore. The "masks" invariably worn to hide the true self from others makes it a challenge to be trusted, as well. The fear of being hurt, facing opposition, or showing emotions encourage these antics. Casting the habits aside, however, will allow a person to see how Perfect Trust comes into play. It allows one to look at others and assess their trustworthiness, and act accordingly and honestly. The next door neighbor may borrow and not return garden tools, and gossip a bit too much. Instead of avoiding the person, there are ways to draw out the finer qualities, if the time is taken to discover them. And, by presenting oneself as trustworthy, others will be encouraged to take the example.
Combined, these two concepts have the potential to make the world a much better place, if put into practice by those who profess the belief. And if we profess it, we should live it.
