the Frater's Mark

Hail, web surfers of summer! The importance of staying informed about the political activities of our elected officials cannot be stressed enough. Especially since Pagans are known to have some degree of higher education, and the type of intelligence that won't let the "legalese" of intricate legislation go unchallenged. So, without further commentary, here are some sites that will keep you on top of things, at the local, state and federal level. Many of these sites offer opportunities to contact elected officials with your comments on their performance, their voting record, etc. Don't be afraid to drop these representatives a line, because they are supposed to be representing us, not just the "majority", moral or otherwise.

Circle Sanctuary hosts and supports the Lady Liberty League, which keeps an eye on political activities involving Pagans across the nation.

The Our Freedom project is a select group of prominent Pagans who are willing to approach elected officials on matters involving Pagan rights and proposed legislation or activities.

The Pagan Unity Campaign started in 2000, spurred by the election of the present conservative administration. They have sponsored two "I Am" postcard campaigns at summer solstice to make elected officials aware of the Pagan presence in America, and are working on Pagan voter awareness activities.

www.[stateabbreviation].gov - It is possible to find the website for any state by using this template - i.e. www.in.gov. Even if this is not the actual website address of the state's official homepage, the link will forward web cruisers to the proper site. It is possible, on many of these sites, to find out what legislation is being considered on the state level (some of it can be pretty strange, too).
