the Frater's Mark

All The PAGAN News That's Fit To Print

Morning, my dear Pagan-minded web dwellers, is not my favorite time of the day. My mornings usually unfold as the following triptych (imagine one painted by Bosch or Munch). Panel one: wake, blearily try to discern the time and make a mental note to put a pox on the inventor of the alarm clock. Panel two: trudge to the kitchen and carefully pour the day's first cup of coffee, all the while wondering if an IV wouldn't be more practical. Panel three: as the fog clears from my brain, enjoy a few moments of meditation and/or divination and make a beeline for some source of news from the world. But where, in our media-sodden world, can the best current, Pagan oriented news be found? That's the topic of this issue's Frater's Mark. My first stop is always The Witches' Voice (www.witchvox.com) , but as I've sung their praises several times in the past, I'll list some other goodies (and keep in mind that I didn't select any sites that didn't keep their pages fresh - to be in the know, you've got be current). So, just put down those right-wing rags, click off the glass teat where the plastic people live and follow me to the best of the web:

www.twpt.com
The Wiccan / Pagan Times

An excellent link for information in the vein of popular culture (this was the first place I heard about Llewellyn and Silver Ravenwolf's problems with the Teen Witch Kit). Seemingly slow to update, the site is current and timely once you get past the opening page.

www.celticcrow.com/wnews/news.html
News of the Day from the WLPA (Wiccan League for Public Awareness)

A good site, but painfully choosy with what they post. You won't find anything on the chakras or healing your dog with color therapy here, just the serious political and social issues that have a direct bearing on the Pagan community.

www.outofthedark.com/WitchTower
The WitchTower

A well-maintained site with a bit of news about everything. Eclectic is the word. And they feature my favorite disclaimer: "WARNING! This page contains information on Witchcraft, Wicca, Pagan and other Earth Centered and Nature Based Religious Faiths. Contents could be dangerous if ingested."

www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/5883
Pagans Fighting Religious Discrimination

No-nonsense and filled with nitty-gritty info, this site covers the gamut of Pagan concerns; from news to legal information to issues of activism and self-protection, this web address has it all.

www.circlesanctuary.org/liberty/index.htm
Lady Liberty League

One of the finest watchdog sites on the net at this time. It not only keeps you up to date on the pressing stories, but also offers the best selection of vital links I've seen, including links to the ACLU, to Hatewatch.org and to the Internet Free Expression Alliance. Good stuff.
