Pagan Parenting in the New Millenium
Ok, ok, it's a pretty fancy title, but that's what any one of us who is raising children is doing right here and now. Since I found out I was pregnant with my son, I started investigating various resources for Pagan parents, and happily, I have found many, both online and offline. I don't plan on detailing all of them now, as it would honestly take up too much room, so I will instead do a few at a time along with anything cool I have been able to come up with on my own, as well as anything suggested to me by anyone else who cares to contribute.

For this first installment, I will profile two resources which I enjoy very much and recommend highly. The first is The Blessed Bee. The Blessed Bee is a quarterly Pagan family newsletter put out by Blessed Bee Media, the same folks who do Sagewoman and PanGaia. It has articles of general interest as well as kids' activities, articles by Pagan parents for Pagan parents, a mythology section for kids, songs and poetry, and the occasional article by a Pagan child. For example, the most recent issue has articles on committed relationships, festivals, baby blessings, and support for home schooling; information on Pagan parenting study groups; ideas for things to do with the children to observe Ostara and Beltane; a tale of Oshun - an African Goddess - along with a picture to color; book and product reviews; and some fun new songs to teach the kids. Contact BBI Media Subscriptions, PO Box 641, Point Arena, CA 95468-0099, to get sample issues or to subscribe. They also have a website, http://www.blessedbee.com .

The second resource is a book, The Pagan Kids' Activity Book, by Amber K. It is done in a coloring book format and has loads of fun things for the kids including pictures to color, mazes, word searches, all done with information on the Sabbats, the Gods and Goddesses, and Pagan life in general. I found it at the Barnes and Noble online site and have also seen it in their stores in the New Age section.

If you have any questions on where to find things, ideas, or just want to say hi, I can be reached at tinnekke@earthlink.net.
